October is my month. Yes, I was born in October. But I also just have a great feeling about this month. Like everything I’m working on will finally come together. Amen. So October is all about meeeeee! I plan to have fun, explore, do more of the things I love, and THRIVE!
It’s also breast cancer awareness month ladies. Don’t tell yourself “it can’t happen to me”. Please go get your boobies checked out. I need to go get mine done next week as well.
This morning I realized just how much time I waste on social media. Many days I tell myself that I don’t have time to get my yoga done in the morning. Cos I feel like I’m always a hurry in the morning.
However this morning, the Internet was down. So I had no access to any social media. I got out of bed as soon as I was wide awake. I didn’t waste the first 10 minutes catching up on emails, Instagram, or twitter. I said my prayers. I sorted out fabric that I needed to take with me to my workshop. I did some cleaning. Then I was bored. And it wasn’t time to go to work yet. I kept wondering what happened. I didn’t wake up earlier. So why was I bored? Why did I have all this spare time?
Then it dawned on me. No social media! It really is a time waster. I’m not saying social media is wrong or bad, don’t get me wrong. But we are constantly connected. From the minute we wake up, until we go back to bed at night. Some even check up on social media if they happen to wake up at some point during the night. Why does social media control our lives so?
I think it’s very important for each of us to commit to disconnecting. Decide when you’ll disconnect everyday, and see how it affects your life. 30 mins a day? 1 hour a day? Just try it for a week and see what it does. I used to do it religiously for sometime. Usually from around 6:30 to 7:30pm, I would leave my phone upstairs, and go downstairs with a book. If it was too close to me, I’d be tempted to check on it. I definitely recommend a minimum of 30 minutes a day. Start with a weekly detox maybe, and then 2/3 days a week, then ease into a daily detox if you’re really attached.

It was the second day of the recent eid holidays in September. My friend called me saying they were going to LCC [Lekki conservation center] just to chill. I figured I didn’t have anything better to do, so I got dressed and headed there.
I wanted to wear something comfortable, but was in the mood for a lot of color. As soon as I opened my wardrobe, this House 38 two piece co-ord set jumped out at me. It was just what I was in the mood for. Super comfy, but still stylish enough, and very colorful.

Ladies [& gentlemen]. It is soooo important to pay special attention to your financial health, no matter how young you are. Many people wait until it’s too late, and unfortunately get into a lot of trouble. I read ‘The Smart Money Woman’ by Arese Ugwu over the weekend, and it gave me life. I thought I knew all I needed to about managing my money, but now I know better. I like that the book isn’t all personal finance from start to finish, so it’s not boring. I’ve tried and failed to finish many personal finance books because they got too boring. This one actually has a storyline; following the lives of a bunch of young ladies that I could relate to. There was even a love story in there.
What lessons did I learn from this book?
Yay, September!!!! My little sister turns 30 this month. I’m so excited you’d think its me turning 30. I’m trying to convince her to have a photoshoot before the day, hehhe. Sucks that I may not get to see her since we live one billion miles apart, but I know she’s going to have an amazing day. Anyways, I digress. Today, I walked into a grocery store to buy some bread. I grabbed the bread, and was standing at the checkout counter when I heard the exchange between the cashier and one of the cleaners. The cleaner was begging her to let him buy some beans, N300 worth, but he didn’t have the money. He promised he’d pay tomorrow. She said some nasty words to him, but eventually agreed. She stressed the importance of him paying tomorrow, otherwise she’d get in trouble. The bread I went to buy was N250. Continue Reading
Woah! We’re in the second half of the year already. How amazing is that? I love July for a multitude of reasons:
- My mom’s birthday is on the 8th; I love her so much and I’m always excited to do something nice for her
- It’s the start of the 3rd quarter and 2nd half of the year, so it gives me a chance to really reflect and figure out how to achieve those goals I set at the beginning of the year, if I’m not already on my way.
- It’s like a reset/refresh – new energy, new enthusiasm. It’s like okay, I might have messed up in the first half but here’s a chance to redeem myself.
The word for July is not one, but two words – RECKLESS OPTIMISM. You get what you give. What you put out to the universe, you get back in return. This month, I’m going to practice reckless optimism. Optimism in every situation I find myself. Optimism, no matter how unrealistic it might seem given the cirmcumstances. Optimism, in every area of my life.
I’m working on setting my professional and personal goals for the 3rd quarter, as well as a 180 day plan. I’m setting measurable goals around
- The number of dresses I want to sell at The Maxi Shop & Pretzels Kids
- How much exercise I need to get in weekly
- How many inches growth I want in my hair
- How to bring my blog back to life
- How many new connections I want to make
And many more like that . . .

Ramadan, for Muslims, is the 9th month on the Islamic calendar and a very holy month. It’s a month of reflection, and one of practicing a lot of self-restraint. It lasts for 29 or 30 days; and we are expected to fast from sunrise to sunset on each of those days. But it goes beyond ‘starving’ yourself. It’s a month of spiritual cleansing and rejuvenation. It’s 30 days of repairing your relationship with God. It’s 30 days of performing your duties as a Muslim, and going above and beyond [ more prayer, charity, and acts of kindness]. It’s basically like a reset; from sinning back to holiness, with the hopes of retaining your new level of spirituality beyond the month of Ramadan. Continue Reading
